Good work - do we need a new standard post-COVID?

COVID-19 has delivered an economic shock and it's hitting young people particularly hard. While the full weight of economic and social impact might yet to be seen, Australia is entering its first recession in three decades.

It is estimated the youth underutilisation rate has already reached more than 60 percent - levels not seen since the Great Depression. As governments and others consider both short and longer term approaches for job creation as a means of recovery, now is the time to call out and address some of the risks inherent in the way we were working prior to COVID.

In its latest research report, The New Work Standard, the Foundation for Young Australians has considered how young people are engaging in flexible work - part time, casual, contract and gig work.

The report identifies that while our labour regulatory system sees workers through a simple binary lense (either employees or contractors) those participating in flexible work don't neatly comply and face a number of risks. Join us to learn more about what the risks are and how they can be managed through understanding what makes work good.

See the report here.
